this is louna

louna is the funniest little girl i’ve given born to (and the only one so far, but she’s cool, believe me!). she doesn’t want to wear any pins, braids or pony tails – no matter what i’ve bought. but an old fur hat? granpa’s oversized ice-fishing gloves? the funky blue old superman shirt? sure thing! love at first sight!

the first picture was no setup. she was playing and i was lucky to have my camera at hand to capture it. the rest? i told her that she was allowed to jump and play on the couch, and i didn’t need to tell her twice to get going. her face is messy from eating breakfast, but i didn’t feel like touching any of that. this is so her, and i love her to pieces.

top to toes

it’s funny how you get attached to your images. or at least i do, at this point. the feeling of “letting go” makes you both excited and happy – as well as anxious. did i pick the “right” ones? am i already blinded by them? and still, you just know. because you did take your time. and quite a few images at that. and then you deleted the ones with issues. after that it’s all about a feeling, which comes from your heart. you know you chose the ones you share over the others for a reason.

i also feel like i know this little one from top to toes, just because he feels so familiar. after photographing him for a few hours and then all the culling and editing, i have his beautiful face memorized. thank you for trusting in me and in my vision, you sweet parents of these tiny toes :)

sneak peek ~ baby in basket

yesterday was a beautiful winter day and i got to capture a few frames of a precious little someone. i am happy to be taking this very common baby in a basket -theme with a little twist. first there was that magical forest shoot with the traditional finnish basket, and now i got to travel all the way to africa with this one. here’s a little sneak peek of who i met yesterday :)

almost 40 degrees celcius ago

feels crazy posting pictures from the summer, as it is at least minus ten degrees celcius outside. in the morning it was way more down and during the next couple of days we’ll be heading towards -20.

back in july 2011 things were just about 40 degrees celcius different. in the beginning of the month we travelled in sweden with another family, by cars – and loved it. i have always had a “thing” for sweden and the swedish language, but the rest of the family enjoyed themselves aswell. we visited pippi longstocking and friends at astrid lindgren’s world in vimmerby, ate strawberries and raspberries like crazy – and drove quite a lot. this year (yes, we plan to return!) we won’t be moving around as much.

one day it was clearly going to thunder any given moment, but we happened to spot this amazing beach, and took a risk of getting rained on. the kids loved to play in the sand after a long drive, and the clouds and the light were beautiful. unfortunately we had to rush back to the car quite quickly, as it really was going to drop some serious rain and thunder on us. but who knows if we will be back… in another 40 degrees?

inspirational ice

a place to go skating, on our own yard! yes, it is real ice. no, there is no lake or pond underneath. our enthusiastic neighbours have created this, and i adore it. i think it is the most beautiful skating rink ever made. unfortunately i wasn’t there to see the lights they had put on in the evening. it must’ve been magical.

so, one minute walk and there we were. aapo for the second time on his skates. grandma arrived just in time to see what he had learned and got to take part in the winter fun.

seriously. i think this is what it all is about. i remember that family’s little boy talking about his dream earlier, when there was no snow. he was cleaning the place from branches and such. he had a vision. and now, there it is. right outside his doorstep. how wonderful it must feel, if even i feel this excited and in some ways proud of this project and the result. i mean, a skating rink. from scratch. it’s no suprise that he loves to skate and play hockey.

so keep on dreaming, you too :)
